Avoid anything on the tinycore repo for the 10.x series. We have finally got some traction with the tinycore team, so hopefully the next 11.x based release, we can be more in sync. In the 11.x base, we will have a newer fontfreetype.
I'll see if I can compile for an older version......Not sure why your compile failed, but I would not do static linking.
