In XPostFacto there's an Input Device and Output Device selection in one
of the menus. If the Radeoon card is installed there will be a string
like pci2/ATY,RV100Parent/ATY,RV100ad_A ...something that will end in A
or B. this sets the 'boot screen' to the A port (the VGA) or the B prot
(the DVI) connector on the Radeon, otherwise they're blank until you've
completely booted up.

You can also do this in OSX by entering th following command in Terminal:

sudo nvram output-device pciX/ATY,RV100Parent/ATY,RV100ad_A

where X is the PCI slot your Radeon is in.
