I finally got the Cat workin'.
But there's three little problems:
[1] My Apple Fast Ethernet card doesn't seem to work. Like in OS9.1, it is
detected (Ethernet Slot B1 PCI) in the Network config, but does seem to pass
any data. Plugging back into the built-in Ethernet port works instantly.
[2] Mail just doesn't want to pick up mail! I've set everything to the exact
same settings as I had in OS9.1, but it says it can't see the mail server. I
have a proxy server running (all my Macs get their internet access via my
PC's modem) and OS X Network prefs have that proxy/gateway listed. Under
OS9.1 there are no proxy settings for mail (it just uses the TCP/IP Gateway)
and I can't find any under OSX. The ports (110 and 25) are definitely open
on the proxy server.
[3] Classic refuses to boot. The little window comes up then quickly
disappears. Upon first attempt it asked me if I wanted to update to 9.2.1. I
have a separate drive, currently with OS9.1. As the machine is a 9600
running a Sonnet Cresendo G4 I've been told there's no need to upgrade to
9.2 - does Jaguar need 9.2 for Classic?
Incidently, the machine is a 9600/G4-350, 184Mb of RAM, standard IMS video
card and fast ethernet card.
Cheers, Ben.
