What app. are you trying to play your MP3's in?
iTunes 3 killed the sound on my 9500 under Jag everytime I tried to use it.
I had to resort to using iTunes 2. Also what version of QuickTime are you
using 6.0 or 6.1? 6.1 has been known to cause various problems. Try
reverting to QT 6.0.

Also ATA66 cards are known to cause audio stuttering. Sonnet has finally
released a fix on their site. It works with all Mac compatible cards,
they're all the same just retagged for each seller.

I don't know if these ideas will help you but they cured my problems on my
G3 9500.
