Hi Scott,

It sounds like you have a ZIF on a carrier card, a good deal for $60. NewerTech made a carrier card for a few months but quickly discontinued it so you may have a future collector's item. That ZIF can be replaced with a faster G3 or G4 ZIF later.

Your Voodoo3 should work but will be completely unaccelerated in OS X; it will be *slow*. It is at least useful to drive a second monitor but will not be accelerated for video games either. The Voodoo3 is much more useful in OS 9 with it's great video acceleration. You will need to remove it while installing OS X and replace it later after the install is done.

A PCI Rage128, Radeon Mac, or Radeon 7000 Mac will give you a *significant* video speed boost in OS X as it is accelerated for these cards. My Rage128 with a 500 MHZ G3 in a 7500 is very nice to use in 10.2.6.
