Scott,

I suggest you track down a copy of PowerLogix Cache Control for X and 9.x as this will "manage" your cards backside L2 cache - and should increase performance when it's all "switched on".

As for ATA card I've got a Sonnet ATA100 and it works flawlessly under 9.1 as boot device, haven't tried OS X as drive attached is 40GB which is way larger than 8GB that X wants to install into on older Macs. Too much effort to take all data off and partition.

I have ATI Radeon Mac Edition in my 9600 and yes significantly quicker than stock Mach64 card from 9600. BUT you will not get quartz acceleration without using PCI Extreme as Quartz is designed only to use AGP cards NOT PCI cards. PCI Extreme "hacks" the code and allows Quartz acceleration on PCI based Radeon cards. There are trade offs in some tasks - read the readme carefully before enabling though. I have not enabled QE on my 9600 under Jag and Marine Aquarium 2.0 runs smoothly with around 6 fish, but under 9.1 it's jerky with only 2 fish!!

To get PCI Radeon to work under 9.1 you need the OpenGL drivers only from 9.2

If you need any of the stuff mentioned let me know and I'll send you the addresses or copies via email - take it off line if you'd prefer.

regards

Simon
