I have installed OS 10.3.3 on my PM 9600/G4/800 with a 22" Apple Cinema Display and have encountered a strange startup issue. I'm using XPF 3.0a15 and when I boot the computer the initial display is ok, but when the OS takes control of the display (right before the 'Starting OS X' progress box is displayed with text entries of each step being displayed) apparently the wrong resolution or refresh rate is selected as the display turns itself off and the indicator light flashes on it. The OS boots fine and I am able to press the power button, 'R', and return to reboot. Sometimes the initial boot up selects the correct resolution, sometimes the second or third time it does. Other than this, 10.3 is very stable and feels somewhat faster than 10.2. I have checked permissions and verified the disk (I have 2 OS X partitions and use one to verify the other.) This happens on both 10.3 partitions I have, one of which I erased the partition then installed on, one was an update and install from 10.2.

It seems that a few recent problems with OS X stem from bad preference files. Try tossing out the displays preferences from your user folder (or create a new user w/clean prefs) to see if the problem clears up.

It's in *username*/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.preference.displays.plist
