It all seems a bit quiet in the world of unsupported Macs the last few weeks, so I'll ask a couple of questions that have been on my mind for a while. My 8600/G3 (300MHz, 384Mb RAM, 50MHz bus, Rage 128) is dog slow compared to all my other Panther machines I have. An iBook 500 (256Mb RAM, 66MHz bus, 8Mb Rage 128 Mobility) and a Pismo 400 (384Mb RAM, 100MHz bus, same graphics)
Also, the slowest chip (G3/300) in the machine with the slower architecture will only magnify the difference in speed when compared a faster 400 or 500 MHz chip in a faster architecture (the G3/500 is 66% faster, remember!). A G4/700 will give you a very nice speed boost in OS X but with the other Macs you have, do you want to spend the $$ on the oldest one? A G4/500 in the Pismo is a better use of your money, IMO.
