howdy,
I have a G4 Sawtooth (AGP) 350 mHz. I want to use it with GarageBand 2, Logic Pro 7, and ProTools LE, under Tiger.
I'm currently using it with GB 2 with no serious problems, but I will either need to do some serious upgrading of this machine now, or wait until I can afford a new G5. And I realize nothing can be done about bus speed.
But, reliability is critical. I want to produce sound bytes, apple loops, multi-media work, and animation sequences for sale, and can't afford time to deal with incompatibility problems.
I've been using one of those 350's upgraded with an OWC 800 Mhz upgrade for well over a year now. Very stable performer indeed. My home machine is a GigE recently upgraded to a 1G upgrade from PowerLogix, also has been performing quite well, though I haven't stressed it a lot yet.
The Sawtooth is a very good design, definitely worth upgrading, to a point. just remember you can go overboard...a new Mini will perform better than most Sawtooths will, even upgraded, unless you spend enough for a new iMac, which will outperform any sawtooth upgrade you can buy.
