Yep. In some ways a 9600 with a processor upgrade is better than a beige G3 with the equivalent processor, though upgrading the graphics card in the G3 eliminates that advantage, and you'll get better OpenGL performance on the G3. The 9600 has better SCSI, and a faster path to video. The PCI bus on the 9600 is the pits, though, so if you plan on using it for more than a place to plug in a USB keyboard and mouse you're better off with a Beige G3... and it'll probably be cheaper than upgrading.
