Are 9600s candidates for OSX, given, say, a processor upgrade?
curios...

My 9500 runs great under OS X 10.3.9 with OS 9.1 as my Classic ... and another separate OS 9.1 with the cpu/cache enabler Extension in its System.

Have a Sonnet G3/500/1MB cpu upgrade, ixmicro ultimateRez video (causes some installation glitches), M-Audio 2496 sound card, and a Sonnet FW/USB card.

I used XPF 4 to install OS X 10.3, and then let the Software Update bring it up to 10.3.9.

Also did a Custom Install of the basic OS X system according to a discussion found here (Made a ~12% improvement in running speed according to Altivec Fractal Carbon):

as I am using it for audio recording work. Seems to be functioning well.

Also discussed my overall hardware system with others at the XPostFacto Forum:

Wish I could get a faster bus speed machine for my audio work ... not just for the speed, but for latency issues ... not really showing up yet in my work, although my machine is not fast enough for the newer Propellerhead Reason 3.0.4 ... will have to wait for a faster overall machine.

Good luck ... have fun upgrading ...

Bill
