Well I always format before installing with Apple Drive Utility under OS9. Also, my only monitor is a standard CRT connected with VGA adapter. I tried both versions of XPF in every possibile scenario but with no success.

Tnx for reply

To keep it safe when I set up a G3 or 73-9600 Mac for OS X, I format the drive with an OS 9.2 install disk first. Also, I use a regular CRT with a VGA adapter (no working Apple CRTs around here). I have had better luck installing OS 10.2 using XPF 2.2.5, 10.3 using XPF 3.1, and 10.4 using XPF 4.0v4. I don't ask why, I just to it this was because it works.

Do you use original CRT from Apple or VGA adapter ??

See my prev message ..

There is another thing: It is advised to format the drive with the
 ?? OS 9 disc
?? OS X disc

Can't quite remember, but it makes a difference ...

I had it with a Beige.

Was after a cmd-opt -p -r. Or when electr was down (and / or no battery inside ...)

Why ??

I connected a CRT, and whoops! it booted.

reason I see: my TFT has a freq of 60-75 Hz (dates from 1998)
the beige gives 90Hz (800x600) (with the PRAM options) and does no longer boot with the TFT connected ..

Not funny, I have to keep a crt around ...

BTW, I still have a non working Blue White I keep, might be a memory chip problem ...

I already tried 7 128Mb chips ( 3 x 2 same type and another Kingston) ...

It is a Rev 1 ...

Anybody with a Rev 2 mobo that can help me out (cheap, cause I give million $ tips on my web page ;-)?? Location Belgium. Or a G4 processor (I already have a G4/PCI mobo, never tested it. You can't plug a G3-ZIF on a Yosemite-ZIF mobo?? Down-firmwaring ??)
