The setup itself sounds ok. If you can see any boot messages, then the tt128 is not the issue at the moment and it's unlikely there is a problem with the drive formatting (if the drive formatting is messed up it won't even attempt to boot). Exactly how far into the boot process do you get before it stalls? And what are the last couple messages displayed? That'll help narrow down what the actual problem is.

Dear list,

I own a 9600, before upgrading to G3/300 I succesfully installed 10.1 on original scsi 4G disk, using original CD drive. Now, I upgraded to Newertech G3/300, Sonnet Tempo ATA, 20G IDE HD + DVD on the same ide channel. I can't go further than 10.1 (using latest Xpostfacto), most of time 10.2, 10.3 or even tiger installs then stops at boot time (waiting for root device). I install either on the 4G scsi (I have another 4G with OS9) or 8G partition on the IDE HD. I removed and shuffled around my memory banks. The internal video is tt128, but it is supposed to work with OSX>10.1, isn't it? I really dunno what to try next, tha machine has full of potential to be unleashed, if only i can put 10.3 and safari and the stuff alike.

Thank you all and sorry for the long message,
