Someone mentioned the fact that Rev's current upgrade window is very generous, giving longer than 30 days. While this is certainly one view, I'd like to point out another that seems to be prevalent in many companies - especially those that want to depend on a strong, loyal user community. Very often, early adopters of a product are rewarded by being allowed to upgrade to the next version regardless of when they purchased. This helps create loyalty among users. I would like to see this happen for people who licensed version 1.0 of Rev without giving a cutoff purchase date. (Still pay the upgrade price, but don't eliminate someone just because they purchased on day 1). The first release of a product almost always has some tweaks made to it in the next version in addition to new features being added. Why penalize early adopters who can't afford a professional license. Ideally, there would always be a reduced-cost upgrade available to purchasers of the previous version. This is likely to actually generate more upgrade revenue rather than less. As for license fees overall - I would like to see them be lower but I understand that this is not Rev's business model. I would like to see a free bug-fix release between each major version. This would help eliminate the impression that some people seem to have that they are going to be constantly asked for more money even for bug-fixes. (At this point, I haven't used Rev enough to say what the bugs are that should have been fixed in such a 1.0.1 version, I'm just going on general experience that there are some there.) As for my own purchase plans, I will hold off at least until I can print the online documentation myself. While the current references are good (I don't want to start another thread here about how to improve documentation) I need to be able to print a page occasionally instead of trying to flip back and forth between windows. Also, if I purchase a standard license and later decide that I want a professional license, can I just pay the difference in cost between the two licenses? If I can, when is the start date of my professional license - at the time of upgrade or time of original purchase. Also, if I purchase a pro license, what provision is there for me to get new printed documentation (or at least PDF or equivalent printable) when updates occur? -Rodney
