Hi Richard
I see you're a regular contributor and enjoy your input. As a long
time xCarder you clearly have a wealth of experience to share. I tend
to be more of a listener until I feel I have something really helpful
to say. I'm not sure that my own xCard experience isn't too narrow
sometimes.
I agree with your comments regarding CODECs:
Sorenson - live action
Graphics - screen capture
Animation - animation
I also use Sorenson when I'm showing screen capture with a high
colour depth as I find it gives higher quality results for lower file
sizes by comparison to Graphics. My current work involves
cartoonists using Painter and they are using high colour depth to
show tonal variation. Graphics did a poorish job with this material
whilst Sorenson 3 was more than acceptable, even at "medium" quality
(which kept the file size down as well).
Also, as you say QT seems to give better playback than AVI and MPEG,
but my experience is more limited and might not be typical.
Cheers
Peter
