Yes, that part reached me with the rest of your
first reply on this question. I had previously checked these out but only very
quickly and had decided they were not the answer for me.

Yes, this is my conclusion too. I like the idea
that "shft" will constrain a rotation by 45 degrees for objects except for this
one time with the viewport camera. I seem to recall that the 45 degree stepping
can be altered, maybe in preferences ... but then I suppose I would have to
reboot for a zero (for example) value to take effect.
In any case the work around is totally robust, easy
and very useful.
And sorry but no idea about the email
delays.
