On more thing that I just discovered now:

Issue http://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MAGNOLIA-3291 is still not fixed!

When Magnolia caches a page, it does not include the protocol as key. So when 
your page X is called for the first time on http and it requires encryption, 
the filter will return a redirect message to the browser and this redirect 
message will be stored in the cache. The browser will then call the page X 
again on https but will keep getting a redirect message back from the cache :-(
