hi david,
I tried again with a clean installation.
After the first startup, the localhost:8080 or localhost:8080/
magnoliaAuthor page displayed nothing.
Next step was to stop the server, but this was interrupted by the
tomcat server itself due a "invalid command" problem.
I solved this by killing the java process.
Then I restarted the server again and the the start up page of
magnolia was available and I could make the update.
Finally, the system is now running and ready.
This is the part of the catalina.out where the server could not
shutdown:

I am happy now, but maybe for other newbes this could be a big blocker
to start with magnolia.
Best,
André

If the 3.5.4 webapp is not available, there should be some messages
in tomcat's catalina.out offering a reason why. They did change the
startup from 3.5rc1 -- it doesn't bootstrap immediately any more.
It'll initialize the repository and then wait for you to visit the
install/update page before continuing w/ repository bootstrap and
module deployment.

Hi magnolias,
I am new to magnolia cms.
We want to start with the community editing and downloaded the
bundled version of 3.5.4 from sourceforge (for jdk 1.5).
After starting the server, the site (http://localhost:8080) is not
available.
Also it seems that no content or templates are in this version
integrated.
Version 3.5-rc1 ist running fine on the same computer.
But, it would be great to start working on 3.5.4 (latest and
greatest).
Any ideas how I can move the templates and sample content to the
latest version
or get the lastest version as working system?
Thanks in advance,
André
