I have a slightly different problem now. I fiddled around with the installations a bit and now I get the following messages in the apache error log when I try to start or stop apache.
[Tue Sep 9 12:06:45 2003] [error] PHP Warning: dl(): midgard: Unable to initialize module
Module compiled with module API=20010901, debug=0, thread-safety=0
PHP compiled with module API=20020429, debug=0, thread-safety=0
These options need to match
in /var/www/html/midgard/cache/4.php on line 7

It looks like you got two versions of midgard installed or that the midgard php module has been compiled against another php version. What OS is this on?
I am using Debian-Linux.

I am puzzled why it has suddenly decided to pick up a different version of something as it compiled ok the first time - I just thought I'd recompile because it wasn't fully working.
Try to look at the modules to see if you got more than one midgard-php module lying around.
Btw: I belive there are some debs lying around (check the ml-archives). They should make your problem easier.

this is a regression from the state of affairs at my last post, where i could start apache but no pages would show.
pls any tips. i have been through the installation process more times that i care to admit and would like to have some idea what to look out for if i have to do it again.

There are many possibilities. If You need help send the output for apache, mysql ,php log files. It would be good if You could set apache log level to debug.
