I started out with Phoneix a while back.

The learning curve(for me) was very high, but I learned more about
component based development and I was interested in a basice server
framework to use with all my applications.

I also wanted a structured and controlled way of managing application
lifecycle rather than initializing all my application "services" in one
place.

So I looked at what I thought to be production quality container
phoenix.

I was able to underestand and deploy some components using phoenix. I
hit a snag however, with integrating some legacy code and was side
tracked by other non-avalon-related projects at work.

I am now restarting with Merlin, because my impression is that is the
container of choice for avalon implementations.

I go off of CVS because I see many change commits happening and would
like to keep up with the latest, up to where I want to deploy at which
point, I will test with latest stable release. I can live with the
risk as well.

one thing though, that it seems the hot deploy feature is missing in
merlin. I wasn't using that but thought it to be nice when I saw it
first. Also, I am not sure about JMX support or if it is being
supported as well as the one in Phoenix.

hope this helps.

Korosh.
