I think it is wrong to assume that people would take wikis very seriously,
typical mentality is to look for information on the website.
lets just ditch the website and put it all in a wiki then! (or, let's change that mentality)
The only significant difference between the wiki and the website is that with the wiki you can click on "edit this page" to change the contents, and with the website you need to retrieve xml files from CVS, edit them, generate a patch, and send it via e-mail.
