They need to do low-level changes to make it easier for others to contribute. For example, citation coding internally will change radically. They need to rework SW to be able to work with that new coding scheme.
And also, even if cold hard cash is necessary, aren't there other ways of fundraising?
There was discussion of that previously, but I don't remember what came of it or why.
This might be something people on this list could look into though. There is a huge need for what we're doing, and there must be tons of institutions out there for whom this would be valuable simply in terms of saving them money long-term.
I'm too busy to deal with this now though.
