Dear David,
I have a quick response to the OpenOffice Bibliographic implementation file (http://bibliographic.openoffice.org/implementation.html). I heavily suggest to enhance the MasterBibliographyDataField list by several entries such as Series Editor and so forth. I think a good source for inspiration is the field name list of Endnote which is flexible for different types of references.
Best wishes
Marc
