I really can't imagine that you would be the first one having problems with 
cocoon in combination with tomcat. ehcache 1.1 has been in there for years now. 
You could try ehcache1.2 jar which is now in the cocoon trunk, but I doubt if 
it would differ. Can't it just be a configuration error in tomcat?
