Recently I found, that COUNTIF can count specific items. A few times I managed to enter that function and probably got a correct answer. HOWEVER, every here and there only the function, but no value:

As far as I can tell, the entered function is in both cells (within the same column) are IDENTICAL So, why does the function entered in cell 2340 does not return a value?

Possibly because you have actually omitted the leading "=" sign from your formula in this second cell? Or that you have added a spurious blank character in front of the "=" sign?
