Maybe it's marketing hype but commercial link below shows Subject Alternative 
Name certificates being supported since 2003 in
Internet Explorer (since Win98) as well as Firefox, Opera, Safari, and 
Netscape.  I have no experience w/SAN certs so cannot vouch
for this.  YMMV.
