Kudos for not wanting to interfere with aircraft operations. Back in the 70's, I worked on avionics, and heard stories of people who thought it was funny to use a handheld VHF Airband transceiver to "prank" aircraft or control towers. I put quotes around prank because it was also a Federal felony. Here in the PNW (late 90's), a couple of teens thought it would be funny to call a fake distress call into the Coast Guard. Unfortunately for the boys, the radio they used was equipped with DSC, which appended the vessel's call sign, MMSI, and GPS coordinates, which weren't anywhere *near *what the distress call specified. The Coast Guard operator called base security, who contacted the local police, who showed up at the boat owner's house in force (intimidation 101). The news article didn't report the penalty, but I suspect they're *still *picking up trash along the coast, in parks, and at marinas.
