Cheers Richard
FYI...
I live about 350 meters away from the northern End of Rockhampton
Airport Runway 15, QLD.
so I do not wish to have "Visits", but love to listen to incoming &
outgoing comms from
Tower to Aircraft.

Kudos for not wanting to interfere with aircraft operations.
Back in the 70's, I worked on avionics, and heard stories of people who
thought it was funny to use a handheld VHF Airband transceiver to "prank"
aircraft or control towers. I put quotes around prank because it was also a
Federal felony.
Here in the PNW (late 90's), a couple of teens thought it would be funny to
call a fake distress call into the Coast Guard. Unfortunately for the boys,
the radio they used was equipped with DSC, which appended the vessel's call
sign, MMSI, and GPS coordinates, which weren't anywhere *near *what the
distress call specified. The Coast Guard operator called base security, who
contacted the local police, who showed up at the boat owner's house in
force (intimidation 101). The news article didn't report the penalty, but I
suspect they're *still *picking up trash along the coast, in parks, and at
marinas.

Aircraft VHF communications are conducted on 118.000-136.975 MHz AM. The
military uses UHF AM on 225-399.975 MHz. The US Military also operates on
civilian VHF airband frequencies, mostly so Military aircraft can contact
civilian aircraft as well as Military. Unlike civilian aircraft, the
Military is allowed to use encrypted communications. In fact, the US
Military is allowed to use almost every frequency, modulation, and
encryption it deems "necessary," but thy generally avoid civilian
frequencies and those frequencies reserved for non-military international
frequencies. One exception is that the Coast Guard, a military
organization, operates on the civilian MF/HF and VHF Marine frequencies
as
well as military reserved frequencies.

Specifications:
- Transmit (TX): 136-173.9975 MHz (VHF) and 400-469.9975 MHz (UHF)
- Receive (RX): 50-600 MHz (full band)
The Airband covers 108-137 MHz, so the radio CANNOT transmit on any
aircraft frequencies EXCEPT, perhaps, the overlap of 136-137 MHz, so if
you
avoid that frequency range, you should be safe.

Hi,
If it can transmit on those frequencies, just put a different TX
frequency
in that row.
When I have set up Baofengs for non-Hams, I put frequencies like FRS
frequencies in the rows of the Ham stations.

Sorry Richard...
Forgot to add "Quansheng UV-K5(8)"
Loaded and receiving transmissions.
But, hope there is ABSOLUTELY NO possibility to TX!!!
Again, Thank You!

Most HT's which can receive aircraft frequencies do not support AM
operation (air band communications are AM) and are blocked from
transmitting on air band frequencies.
