Many Chinese manufactured FRS, GMRS, MURS are basically full band
radios that masquerade as FRS, GMRS, MURS, PMR, etc complient models
by using software that only allows them to be programmed in a manner
that conforms to the rules governing the radio service that they are
marketed for. When this is the case, CHIRP is usually programmed to
allow it to take full advantage of the radio's full capabilities. When
CHIRP is programmed to display the frequencies as immutable, it is
because the radio's firmware will not allow the radio to function if
any other frequency is placed in that particular memory location.
