I'm not sure how Ubuntu has work around license issue.
My sister uses Xubuntu and has nVidia, so I've seen it done. First, at
the end of installation, or any update that includes a new kernel, the
user is asked for permission to install the third-party drivers. I
don't remember if this is considered accepting the license or if said
accepting is done as a separate step before adding the drivers, but in
either case, it's part of the automated process.
