Graphical boot screen.  Instead of seeing a text screen with all the
services whizzing up (ok, failed, etc), you just have a graphical
screen with a loading bar underneath (giving you no clue as to what's
going on, or *not* going on).

If you hit escape when it shows up, it goes away and you can see the
textual boot progress.  But that won't help you if it has jammed, or
your keyboard isn't recognised at the time.
