Dunno which desktop you're using, Bob, but under XFCE, I think you can

        Applications Menu-->Settings-->Appearance-->Fonts tab

Change your fonts and stuff there. Keep in mind this will affect ALL of
your desktop settings. I use

        Sans 10
        Enable anti-aliasing checked
        Hinting: Full
        Sub-pixel order: None
        Custom DPI enabled at 96 DPI

Your mileage may vary.
