Hello,

I am running Scientific Linux 6.0 and when I try to run vlc it crashes.

VLC media player 1.1.8 The Luggage (revision exported)
*** glibc detected *** /usr/bin/vlc: free(): invalid pointer: 0x00007f4c144923a0 ***

It seems the issue has something to do with taglib. Here is the VLC bug report that I found for Fedora 13: http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3701

A workaround is (re)moving /usr/lib64/vlc/plugins/meta_engine/libtaglib_plugin.so.

Another workaround is running vlc with MALLOC_CHECK_=1 vlc. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-516454.html

Seems like the best solution would be to remove the libtaglib_pulgin so long as there isn't any adverse affects. Maybe it is possible to pass a compile flag to not compile the plugin?

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Thanks,
pyther
