Hi netbeaners,

Rishi Rishi Priyadarshi pointed me in the right direction. I see now the procedure I follow is only partially correct. Probably the original from before Oracle!

With little perseverance I reach the last few steps, sadly, not without error.

At steps 14 and 16 the inserted XML contains <toolchaindefinition xmlns="https://netbeans.org/ns/cnd-toolchain-definition/1";>. Extensive internet searching reveals NO SUCH file.

Following the clues I follow the procedure with both Netbeans 26 and 31.

At step 17 , instead of run I select build. Oh yes, I get BUILD SUCCESS. But:

version26 build produces:

"Ignoring incompatible plugin version 4.0.0-beta-2: The plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-deploy-plugin:4.0.0-beta-2 requires Maven version 4.0.0-rc-2 Ignoring incompatible plugin version 4.0.0-beta-1: The plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-deploy-plugin:4.0.0-beta-1 requires Maven version 4.0.0-beta-3"

version 31 produces:

"Ignoring incompatible plugin version 4.0.0-beta-1"

Then run in either version outputs the test IDE, but without any sign of GNU_tuned or GNU build tools.

I see Neil and Geetrjan. For the record and so you start to know me. i'm 80 years old and been programming since the late 60's. I'v forgotten more programming languages than a few. I have written some Java, but hate it. So why Netbeans and C++? I'm preparing to work with Microchip MPLAB X ide which is based on Netbeans. Being an old Linux user I have never seen the use of IDEs. However, there comes a point ... Integrated emulator, debug and library searches to name just a few.

I'm happy to help. In the meantime, I will try to write a more up to date version of the 'C++ Tool Collections' tutorial.

I think the problems are: out of date and missing files and dreaded version creep.

Hi Charles,

I've never done c++ and i didn't know anything extra was needed, not sure about that requirement of installing a NetBeansDevelopment module, that link is for netbeans 8 (we are up to 32 nearly)

On my nb 31, i can see a "NetBeans Module" project in "Java with Maven"

    I am following this:

https://netbeans.apache.org/tutorial/main/kb/docs/cnd/toolchain/#_tool_collections,

but I fall over at step1 Make sure your NetBeans installation
    includes
    the NetBeans Plugin Development module.

Because my Netbeans installation, version 3.1, has no 'Development
module'. Step 2, Create a new NetBeans module by choosing File > New
Project. On the Choose Project page of the New Project wizard,
    select
    the category NetBeans Modules

Again I have no NetBeans to select under 'New Project'

Am I missing something obvious ??
