Dear Brian,
Thank you. I'll investigate it more with these comments in mind.
Have a GREAT day!

Also, images in Word versions for some reason no longer show up in
OpenOffice.
They do for others.
I don't know why.
Probably because you don't have Tools | Options... | OpenOffice
Writer | View | Display | Graphics and objects ticked.
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, it was (and is always)
ticked. Any other ideas?
I'm *no expert* in this, so I'm only guessing:
o Displaying graphics often takes a lot of memory, so if your system
has limited memory (or perhaps if the settings at Tools | Options... |
OpenOffice | Memory are not ideal), it may be that particular images
will not be shown properly. (This can be true of Microsoft Word itself.)
o If your correspondent has pasted a large image into a text document
and then scaled it there (instead of reducing its size appropriately
first), I think the full definition of the original size will be
retained in the document. When you display this, the word processor
presumably has a lot of work to do to extract what needs to be
displayed. Does that make large demands on memory?
o Are there perhaps graphic formats that Microsoft Word can handle but
OpenOffice Writer cannot? If so, you would expect Writer to show some
sort of placeholder for any images in such formats.
Did I say I was guessing?
