"View" -> "Workspace" -> "Outline" and then you can copy and paste the text.
For some reason this does not work. I have the slide icon on the left a small preview in a separate window on the right but no text to select anywhere in sight.
I used NO/J (RC with patch3) and OOo 1.93 with exactly the same results.
The original file is a .ppt file that I converted to .swi.
