Hello Elchanan,

OpenOffice.org has both the Backup option and the AutoSave (or AutoRestore)
option.

        See Tools>Options>Load/Save>General>Save

The paths are defined in

        Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org>Paths

it may be advisable to create a location that won't be 'cleaned' when you
quit OOo or shut your system.

AutoSave is not a replacement for your normal 'duty' to regularly save
manually, but my experience is that the AutoRestore in case OOo hangs is
quite functional (although another thread on this list mentions problems in
the new 3.0.0...)

Thank you very much, Guy. Next question: Is there a documented list of
locations that are "cleaned" when OOo shuts down?

Thanks,
Elchanan
