Hello, I have turned this option on, but I could not find the backup
copy at the same location as the opened file when I opened an odf file.
So I wonder whether it is a bug or not?

When I played with mine, I only saw the file appear with I pressed save.
It had a .bak extension.
Search your hard drive for a *.bak files and see if you can find it. It
was not in the same location as the saved file. On my linux system it
is stored in
/home/rlaing/.openoffice.org/3/user/backup
