My point, Gary, was rather that I experienced the same problem after
installing OOo 3.0 from the download page, but that it was resolved after
installing the Ubuntuised version from the repositories. I am unaware if
other Gnome users have had similar experiences....

PS : Rather than replace m37, which is a 3.1 dev, with 3.0.1 RC1, wouldn't
it be closer to hand to replace the Ubuntuised OOO300m9 (Build:9358) ? I'm
not sure I could succeed in doing so, as I don't see the latter in Synaptic,
but as I have the repositories and can always go back (?), it might be fun
to give it a whirl....
