My point is that you are not running kde/kubuntu and John is.

Your problem after initally downloading OOo 3.0 from the download page
most likely has nothing to do with John's problem. Further, if you
download and reinstall OOo 3.0 (or 3.0.1RC1) and exerienced the same
problem *please* file a bug report.

I've no idea about the recent Ubuntu'ized ppa builds as I removed mine
from my test machine. I did mention to Chris Cheney (via a bug report)
that I'd reload test again, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

As for 3.0.1 RC1 vs devM37: generally the RC will be _the_ next release,
unless of course folks find it full of bugs & then do RC2 etc. Unless
you are a _developer_ and actively contributing to bug reports for M27,
I suggest that your efforts will be better spent (and IMO appreciated by
the OOo dev folks) shaking down 3.0.1RC1 (standard OOo) and reporting
any bugs/issues found as soon as you find them so that when 3.0.1
(standard) hits the streets it will have been tested by experienced OOo
users.
