Try to reset your OOo user profile perhaps but don't transfer your personal
data during the welcome process if you had 2.x installed before, configuration
files from the former version might corrupt the new profile.

You might have to reinstall the English dic extension, see section 4 of the

anyway, I click the drop down menu and select "English(USA)" and
Openoffice restarts. Spellcheck still doesn't work and Finish is still
set as the defualt language.

Hello Hagar!
There is a blue check infront of the language I want. I rebooted my
computer and I noticed that it started working once I selected the
language, until I restarted openoffice, in which case "Finish" was right
back as the language.
Isn't this a bug with OO? I never ever changed any OO settings before...
