Hello Michael,

Sorry to bother you with these details, but your email comes at a particularly interesting moment in time, coinciding with a discussion begun by myself regarding this subject. (well kind of on subject at least)

This is a mailing list - for you to receive 159 messages you needed to have requested your email address be added to the list.

After that - a confirmation email was sent to that address.

After that - you would of needed to respond to that confirmation email, in the affirmative. (These last two steps are done as a precaution, so that no other person could register your address without your knowledge )

The first email you sent a few minutes ago was processed directly the the list - which means that this registration process had been successfully completed.

Looking at all emails to the list from April 2008 up to and including yesterday I fail to find any other emails from your address, so I take it that this was your first email to the list. This shows that your email address was never used to as an un-subscribed email address. (During this time frame appx. 20,000 emails where processed through the list from both subscribed and un-subscribed addresses.)

Two possibilities exist therefore:

1) A subscription using your email address was performed without your knowledge. In this case this really needs to be reported to the appropriate individuals as there is a serious problem with the software or the process.

2) The instructions and information presented on our web sites is very poor and lead you to creating a subscription without adequately explaining what would be coming - a lot of emails. Another problem but of another type and needing a different solution.

If either of the two possibilities above are in fact the case please let us know via the list so that appropriate actions can be started.

Also, let me point out that OpenOffice.org directly and indirectly through it's supporters, provides a number of informational services such as this list, web based forums, on-line knowledge bases, web sites and a wiki. None of those services, not a one, require that you be registered, or subscribed, in any way to browse or search the repositories offered by them.

Finally, I believe others have already pointed you towards how to remove your email address from the list.

Best wishes,

Drew
