Failure/Recovery":
Both the forums and this mailing list are being disestablished. Oracle
(which bought Sun) has divested itself of OpenOffice.org to the
Apache group[1].
The forums are alive and well and are an excellent source of support. They are now hosted by
Apache at the same URL as before. http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/index.php
There is also a user mailing list at Apache. For all Apache OpenOffice mailing lists see
http://incubator.apache.org/openofficeorg/mailing-lists.html
Users Mailing List

about the product and project, etc.
