Most of the people who receive mail at [email protected] are exactly
that: Users. People who use the program, and devote some of their spare
time to try to help other people who (want to) use the program.
We (well, most of us, anyway) are not professionally employed in any
connection with Open Office.
That's why nobody is volunteering to tackle your password: There's
nothing we can do about it.
When Andy said OOo uses "strong" encryption, that means it is unlikely
that anybody (including yourself, unfortunately, but also us, and even
the authors of the program) will be able to break it. The *only* way in
will be for you to remember the password. That's what strong protection
means.
(I copied this reply to mreubenshe directly, in addition to the list,
because your original post was shown as "[moderated]". That usually
means that you're not subscribed to the [email protected] mailing
list. Apologies if you get multiple copies. If you *aren't* subscribed,
I recommend it, *at least* until you get answers to your question,
because people often reply only to the list, and then you wouldn't see
those replies. Send an email to mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
You will get back a confirmation email asking if you really want to
subscribe; reply to that too. (This confirmation process prevents people
from signing up other people, it's a security measure.) Once you get
your answers, and if you're not interested in reading (or contributing
to) any of the other discussions, you can unsubscribe. Later if you have
more questions, you can subscribe again (and later unsubscribe again, if
you choose).)

well this file is NOT anything critical, just the jobs i did for a co. a

i can send it to you and you can do it for me.
thanks

Reuben,
AIUI, this is not possible. The purpose of passwords is to prevent
strangers
from opening a file, so why would you expect passing the file to a
stranger
be a way of retrieving the data? I seem to remember someone saying
that the
encryption used by OOo is strong.
