This is all you need.  You untar it to an appropriate directory in
either /usr/local or /opt (depending on where you add your additional
user installed programs.)

Not this one either.

I'm not that familiar with FreeBSD, but if the package is like the other
UNIX flavor packages, you just have to untar/unbzip the file into a
directory of your choice.

Maybe Jack L. will be able to provide additional pointers.
