     I doubt that I could help you with most of your problems without 
having the file, itself. However, the last problem is easy to 
correct.
     Tools > Options > Load/Save > General. The bottom of this window 
has a "Default file format" section. You need to set your preferences 
there as to how you want the files saved. Set the Text documents to 
be saved as Microsoft Word and Presentations as Microsoft PowerPoint.
