AMD processors always ran Linux. The question was whether their ATI
graphics division (recently purchased) would develop Linux drivers,
open their source code/specification, or completely ignore Linux.
In fact, Linux was ready for the AMD64 on the same day that chip was
available. There has never been a day Linux wouldn't run on an
available AMD64. The same happened with the Itanium IIRC.
