I have 768 MB RAM which should be plenty for OOo running under Windows XP.

Yes it does - exited Quickstarter and closed any open windows and then

and double clicked on my ODB file an up she came, and when I clicked on
"Tables", there they were. However, it behaves normally sometimes, even
when Quickstarter is running in the background, so my little experiment
does
not really prove anything.

I wonder if it is a memory issue. How much memory do you have?

When it starts to create problems again you might check your memory - I
forget how to do that on Windows, but some 'google'ing' should point you
to how to do that.
You might also try just turning off Quickstarter completely & running
for a few days - if then no problems then turn it on for a few days to
see if it reoccurs.
