- You subscribe by sending an empty email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you want to see the answers to your question without having to navigate to the OpenOffice.org forum site to search for your question every now and then. - Sending your questions to [email protected] will make everyone subscribed to the list to receive it. - You will get approximately 50-100 messages every day from people who ask and/or reply to questions. I think it's a good idea to use a special email account for mailing lists only, but that's up to everyone. - Remember most people on this list are volunteers and regular OpenOffice.org users, just like yourself. We are all just helping each other out. Yes, even some developers are subscribed to the list and if you are lucky they even reply now and then when no one else can or when they just feel like it, but that's not what this is all about. This is mainly a "users helping users" list. - If someone asks a question that you know the answer to, it would be nice of you to click the reply button and give your solution for the problem. It seems like most people dislike top posting, so avoiding that would also be a nice thing. - Try to be helpful and not creating unnecessary arguments about things like "this is better than that and that is crap", which doesn't lead anywhere anyway. I know it's hard sometimes and sometimes I fail myself... - Trying to watch your language is always a good idea. It makes people wanting to write you back. - You don't need to write in perfect English. Some people's native language is not English, I am an example of that. However, this list is in English only. If you prefer another language, and you feel that your English is very bad, maybe there is a list in your language. There is even a list in Swedish, just to mention one of the many "rare" languages in the world (my own in this case). If there is no list in your language or if it seems to be pretty dead, you have to write here to get an answer to your questions. Don't let poor English stop you then. Most people on the list are very forgiving and helpful and we can't do more than our very best anyway, can we? Your native language seems to be English, am I right? So when replying to someone and it's obvious that he or she has great difficulties writing in English, try to write as simple as possible. - Using CAPITALS ONLY is for most people the same as shouting, so please avoid that. - writing very long sentences without any kind of punctuation marks makes the text hard to read some people might just give up reading the whole thing also not using capitals at all makes the text harder to read and understand you might then not get an answer to your question please avoid things like that at least try to write as "proper" as possible an example of doing this mistake is this sentence i am typing right now - Please do not highjack other people's threads. Just writing a new question from scratch is not that hard to do. - A subject that describes your problem in few words is also a very good idea. It makes the "right" people reading your question. "Problem with Writer!!!" is not a very good example. "Help! Urgent!" is another bad example, I guess. "Turning text 90 degrees" is OK, I think. It says approximately what it's all about, even if it doesn't mention where the problem occurs (Calc, Writer, table, text box etc.), but it shouldn't be too long either and it isn't. - If you want to unsubscribe you send an empty email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and then you won't receive any more messages. Well, just like when subscribing I think you will receive a message that wants you to confirm that you are unsubscribing. To confirm, just hit the reply button and send it back (in most cases). Further instructions are included in that message. Maybe there are more things to think about, but using common sense will probably be enough in most cases. J.R.
