Parts of the ECDL that deal with Office Applications are almost exclusively written around Microsoft Office and Outlook. This is - in my opinion - yet another way in which Microsoft are continuing to promote their monopoly position.

There is a version of the ECDL produced in Ireland which is written around Staroffice and I know there were plans to port it to OpenOffice.org. But I can't remember the name of the publisher. A Google should help... Or try on the OOo education mailing list: I've cc'd that list in case someone can offer more "sensible guidance".
